Women Of Excellence Banquet being Planned
The 2nd Biannual Women of Excellence Banquet is being planned for December 2013. Nominees will be in the categories of Ministry, Media, Politics, Legal, Education, Bigger and Better Business and Social Action. The second class of women is expected to rank high on the list of professionalism. The event is being planned for the Brookland Banquet and Conference Center. Special invitation will be extended to the 2011 class.
The 2011 class included Soror Barbara C. Moore, Mrs. Wendy Brawley, Reverend Olivia Ashford Williams, Mrs. Michelle Greenlee Harris, Councilwoman Tameika Isaac Devine, Mrs. Delois Daniels, Mrs. Patricia L. Swinton and Mrs. Donell Brown Wilson. The event was held on December 3, 2011.

Bro. Kelly Honored
Congratulations to Bro. Marion C. Kelly for being named "Teacher of the Year" at Longleaf Middle School. Bro. Kelly also recently earned his Ed.S degree in Educational Leadership from Cambridge College. Congratulations to Bro. Kelly!
Sigma Round up Very Successful
Nu Omicron Sigma Chapter conducted its first Sigma Round-up on the campus of Voorhees College on Saturday, November 17, 2012. The Round-up was hosted by Zeta Gamma Chapter, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. Fifteen brothers were in attendance. Eight Sigma men expressed an interest in becoming an member of Nu Omicron Sigma Chapter. Two Brothers paid their dues on the spot while the other six will make a report to Brother Sam Blackwell. Sigma Round-up # 2 was held in Columbia, South Carolina on Saturday, December 16, 2012. Two Sigma men attended the meeting and expressed interest in the chapter. The meeting was held at the Southeast Public Library on Garners Ferry Road. This initiative will enhance the growth of NOS as we prepare for Conclave 2013 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Nu Omicron Sigma Thanksgiving Project
The Brothers of Nu Omicron Sigma Chapter, The Sigma Beta Club Members and their Parents collected and donated Canned/Non-perishable goods for families that are less fortunate in the Columbia Areas. The Annual Thanksgiving Service was held on the Campus of Benedict College on Thursday, November 20, 2012. The Chapter donated three (3) large boxes of food, enough to feed seven families for Thanksgiving. President Mintz was on hand to present the boxes of food to families from the Columbia Hosing Authority. Nu omicron sigma Chapter members, Brother David H. Swinton, President of Benedict College, Brother Le’Mon Jones and Brother Marion Wright were in attendance to support this cause and the President. Benedict College distributed over 125 boxes of food. This is the twenty-second year for the project at Benedict College. Reverend Thomas Davis, the Campus Minister delivered the preached word and the Benedict College Concert Choir rendered the music. Special recognition was given to Gamma Nu Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc, for donating fifty boxes of food.
Kappa Iota Chapter Hosted Anti-Hazing Forum
On Tuesday, November 13, 2012, President Hammock met with Mr. Jerry Brewer, Vice President for Student Affairs at the University of South Carolina . Also, on that date the International President was the speaker and special guest for the Anti-hazing Forum hosted by the Kappa Iota Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. at USC. The forum drew members of the National Pan-Hellenic Council and the Inter-Fraternity Council at the University. The standing room only crowd received our International President with a standing ovation. The forum consisted of a panel discussion which included a members of Delta Sigma Theta, Sigma Gamma Rho, Iota Phi Theta, Phi Beta Sigma, Brother Attorney Dennis Gerald and a member of the USC Greek Life Staff. Special presentations were made to two founding members of USC Kappa Iota Chapter, Brother Doc Sims and Brother Jackie Washington. Hats off to Brother Devaris Davis- Advisor, Brother Richard Boone- Forum Coordinator, and the Brothers of Kappa Iota Chapter at USC.

Washington, DC – Mary Breaux Wright, International Grand Basileus of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. recently announced at a national teleconference that the sorority plans to convene its 2014 International Boule’ in Washington, DC. The meeting will coincide with the Centennial Celebration of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, which is also taking place in the place of its founding, the nation’s capitol.
Brother Jimmy Hammock, International President, was pleased and excited to hear that their sisters had decided to join them in this very special celebration: “Since her installation this past summer as Grand Basileus, Soror Wright has expressed her commitment to supporting her brothers of Phi Beta Sigma. Together, as leaders, we’re serious about promoting and celebrating our 92-year relationship as the only true brother-sister Greek-letter organizations. It makes perfect sense that our Zeta sisters will join us in Washington, DC, as we celebrate 100 years of service.”
Phi Beta Sigma plans to hold its 100th Centennial Celebration in July, 2014. The four-day gathering will bring together Sigmas from all corners of the globe to celebrate this major milestone. Details of the Centennial celebration and the Zeta Boulé are forthcoming.
